The Water Risk Department will hold its next virtual meeting (Zoom meeting) on 15 May 2023<\/strong> from 14 - 16<\/strong> h.<\/strong><\/p>\n Currently, 660 projects have been pledged, 5 of them Germany intends to contribute [ Source: Press release of the BMUV of 23.03.2023 ].<\/p>\n Participation in these meetings is open to all interested parties involved in water management and (operational) water protection. With changing topics, we offer you a professional insight and the opportunity to exchange with the other participants as well as the speakers. The focus will be on the United Nations World Water Conference, which took place in New York (USA) from 22-24 March 2023. Around 150 countries participated in the discussions and panels and adopted a \"Global Water Action Agenda<\/strong>\", which will contribute to the protection and availability of water as a resource - initially until 2030 - through a wide range of activities.<\/p>\n\n
\nOn 15 March 2023, the new National Water Strategy was adopted by the Cabinet. It pursues the goal of making the German water sector fit for the future, guaranteeing water supplies in the long term in view of the challenges posed by the climate crisis, and improving the protection and sustainable management of our national water resources and water bodies.<\/li>\n
\nThe new Water, Energy and Ecosystem Nexus project will support the Democratic Republic of Congo from August 2023 to promote integrated water resources management to ensure ecosystem conservation, including major carbon sinks, adaptation to the climate crisis and multiple uses of water for the country's development.<\/li>\n
\nThe new project supports the Niger Basin Authority to promote integrated water resources management among the riparian countries of the Niger Basin. The project will start in September 2023 and will enable the member countries of the Niger Basin Authority to better implement climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies regionally.<\/li>\n
\nThe new project promotes low-carbon and climate-resilient water and sanitation in South Africa. Germany is supporting South Africa in making the water and sanitation sector more resilient to the climate crisis and thus ensuring long-term drinking water and sanitation supplies, especially for the poor population. Willingness to co-finance the UN Special<\/li>\n
\nIf appointed, Germany has declared its willingness to contribute financially to the financing of the position of the UN Special Representative for Water.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\nTarget Group<\/h2>\n
