Water safety in the environment and society

Prof Schneider will highlight the topic of water security in the context of the UN Convention on Water and explain the differences between water scarcity, water stress and water risk. She will also describe options for action in the event of limited water availability, illustrated by examples and solutions from Germany and abroad.

FlashFloodBreaker - Protection against flash floods

As part of an Interreg North-West-Europe Project, up to 500 partners and institutions from Germany (lead), Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Ireland and Luxembourg are working together on solutions to protect against the effects of flash floods. The water level rises very quickly and strongly within a few hours (3 - 6 hours) after a rain event, so that not only effective but also quickly available protective measures must be taken.
An international exercise took place in Duisburg on 28/29 September 2024 and was accompanied in particular by the lead organisation Emschergenossenschaft / Lippeverband, RWTH Aachen University and the fire brigade of the city of Duisburg as a local partner, and a representative of the Duisburg fire brigade is expected to present the project.

Participation in these meetings is open to all interested parties who are involved in water management and (operational) water protection. With changing topics, we offer you a professional insight and the opportunity to exchange ideas with the other participants and the speakers.
You are also welcome to use this meeting to get to know the VNU association and all its services for and by members.

Fees
Non-members can take part in the Water Risk department once free of charge. From the second participation onwards, we charge a fee of €50.00 (net) per person and per meeting for non-members. ... By the way, a trial membership for persons costs € 100 for one person and a period of 1 year.
VNU members always participate free of charge.
