Environmental Management Award 2022

After a successful start of the German Environmental Management Award last year, forerunners for environmental management and especially for EMAS users are again wanted. Austria and Germany jointly award the Environmental Management Award. Outstanding achievements in climate and environmental protection as well as in environmental communication will be honoured. Companies and organisations from Germany can apply in the joint category "Best EMAS Environmental Statement".

Best EMAS Environmental Statement" category

Validated information on the environmental performance of an organisation (environmental statement) forms the credible basis for communication with authorities, suppliers, investors, customers and the public. Excellent environmental statements are examples of best practice and serve as a model and source of ideas for environmental reporting. They also set an example of high quality and clarity of data and information in sustainability reporting. In addition to the quality of the environmental statement (e.g. completeness, comprehensibility, comprehensibility) and its graphic design, its use in the organisation's environmental communication is a criterion for evaluation.

Award ceremony

At the conference and awards ceremony in Salzburg on 11 October 2022, a total of eleven companies were honoured for outstanding achievements in climate and environmental protection as well as in environmental reporting. Three German and three Austrian companies each convinced the jury in the category "Best Environmental Statement".

Mit der Umweltmanagement"With the EMAS environmental management certification, we honour outstanding achievements by companies that integrate climate protection and environmental protection into their actions and business activities. The companies are committed to managing the climate and energy crisis and are making an important contribution to a climate-friendly future. I would like to express my sincere thanks to all award winners for their commitment," said Leonore Gewessler, Austria's Climate Protection Minister, in the advance of the conference.

"Forward-looking companies know their strengths and weaknesses in their own operations and in the supply chain. The environmental statements submitted for this year's application round show the valuable contribution that systematic and transparent environmental management can make to sustainable business and thus also to the fulfilment of future due diligence obligations," explained Stefan Tidow, State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for the Environment of Germany (BMUV) in his video address and congratulated all the winners.

Twelve companies were nominated in the category "Best Environmental Statement". Of these the jury of experts selected three German and three Austrian companies.
